ARE WE DOING ENOUGH FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR LIVES? Don’t roll your eyes and here me out. Among the majority of important academical articles included in this magazine I personally thought of adding some change hoping to add some value to your daily doze of happiness and success. We do not have super powers to get everything right at the same place every time we want to. So, in that case we must work, work hard through failures and with the right state of mind. The society is developing in a roller coaster speed, so do we. In order to be that super souls there’s some waves that we need to surf through the sea of daily struggles of life. Firstly, we need to get this thing right in to our heads. I can guarantee you that if you follow these steps you can add some little sparkle, if you already are a hard-working persona you can make it more sparkling. Some may think that turning our lives to the bright side means achieving our whole dreams and goals at its best. But accor...

An encouragement to the public service The very term public servant implies that State officials of whatever rank and capacity have to serve the public, not necessarily the Government or politicians. Many Presidents,Prime Ministers and Governments have paid lip service regarding the independence of the public service, only to use it later to fulfill their political ends. The President pledged that he and the Government would protect all public servants who take correct and bold decisions for the benefit of the public. This is a vindication of the President's commitment to protect the public service and public servants who do the correct thing. The entire nation will not doubt, but be grateful to the Government for this stance. This episode may well mark a turning point for the public service, for all Sri Lankans now know that there are forthright and honest public servants who are ...

Online Friends Vs Imaginary friends. Who's better?

ARE ONLINE FRIENDS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN IMAGINARY? Well according to me, obviously it is.   Some may roll their eyes seeing the fact that online friends are much better than the imaginary friends. Here I will be bringing certain reasons to prove my opinion on why online friends are more effective than imaginary friends. But there are some cons as well as pros. let’s see how it goes. Let me make you go through one of the experiences I went through before seasoning my opinion.   Just as the rest of the regular days, my sister and I were on our beds, half asleep but still scrolling up and down on social media. Suddenly she snorted and buried her head in the pillow. The bed shaked with her half-stifled laughter. I wasn’t amused since that wasn’t the very first day she did...

A CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY Accordingly, the Government of a country that produces its own butter is well within its rights to impose, say,a 25 percent duty rate on imported butter, which will instantly make the imported variety more expensive and the local one more affordable. There was a clamour by opposition politicians, economic experts, professional bodies and many others that the FTA with Singapore should be subjected to a wide debate before signed as the country was in the dark about its contents. But each country is free to re-examine and take relevant steps with the consent of the other. In this context, the Attorney General has informed the Supreme Court that a committee appointed by the Government is currently reviewing and re-visiting the context of the Sri Lanka Singapore Free trade Agreement signed by the previous Government. In the ...

A timeless commitment to journalism.  The rules of the Sunday Observer go back much further all the way to February 4,1834,when two Colombo-based British traders G.Ackland and E.J.Darley founded The observer and Commercial advertiser, published bi-weekly. Both the Sunday observer and Daily Observer were published concurrently, the latter as an evening newspaper, though changing reading patterns and economic imperatives forced its closure in the early 2000's. The first task of the Sunday Observer was to support the struggle for independence, which Mr.Wijewardene saw as the core mission for his newspaper empire that included publications in all three languages. No newspaper can thrive without loyal readers and the Sunday Observer is the exception. The Observer is taking the current opportunity to pay a tribute to their readers who have been with them through thick and thin,s...
